A great judgment is coming upon all of creation. As our Lord warned us, it will be the time of completion. The time when the consuming fire will come upon all of us and burn away that which does not bear fruit. The apostle Peter told us that this judgment begins with God’s household! We who are sons and daughters of the Most High are not immune from this terrible experience! If we are not immune, then why did our Lord give his life on the Cross?
To burn or not to burn is
how our Lord’s cross is often put to us. Heaven or Hell, you choose as they
say. In contrast, I would propose to you that the cross is Hell, it is the
Judgment that has come upon the Creation. Through its refining fire, we will all
be made whole, willing, or unwillingly. We will all enter its mystery and be
resurrected. As the Lord teaches, for some of us it will mean life and to
others condemnation(John 5:29).
We must not think that we
will be spared the great condemnation that follows are resurrection or believe
this is why Christ died. As the scriptures say, “Each of us will give an
account of ourselves to God”. Our condemnation will be an eternal one for we
will all experience the Most High as He is. For some, this might be too
terrible and for such people, a special place has been prepared, a place
created for the devil and his angels, a place for those who cannot stand before
His sight (Matthew 25:41). Nevertheless, this is still not why Christ died. His
Cross does not save us from the Judgment. Rather, the cross is the beginning of
it.
All of Creation must
undergo a change. Like that tree our Lord cursed, if it does not produce fruit
it will not be fit for the experience of eternity, when Heaven and Earth will
be one. This is the reason why our Lord died. It is his divine life, his shed
blood, freely given to Creation that makes it whole. It is his blood that
redeems. Redeems means to buy or get back. It is his blood that takes the
Creation back and it is his blood that gives it back its true destiny. A
destiny that does not end in decay but in eternity. It's universal salvation,
as some would call it. To be saved is to be made ready for eternal life.
Woe to those who do not
prepare themselves for eternal life. Woe to those who do not ready themselves
to look upon the Most High! As our beloved St Gregory the Theologian once
taught, God will either be your eternal paradise or eternal punishment! There is
no God torture as some teach, no throwing us into the eternal frying pan of his
anger. The fate of those experiencing eternal damnation is a mystery that will end in God's eternal love. Therefore, experience God’s love now before it's
too late! Embrace the cross of Christ for it indeed is our salvation! Let it
purify you and make you ready for what is to come.
